From Here to There (#poem)

“This may have been too much for me,” she began to think
She’d always been so strong, ready for anything
Life sometimes drove her to chocolate or drink
But she’d never been this close to the brink

Days stretched into weeks, months into years
How much longer could she fight her fears
She’d feel some relief if she could release those tears
But a scared little girl turns to ice when screwdrivers flow along with beer

Life had big lessons it was time to teach her
She’d often skated by risking her future, avoiding the hard stuff, choosing what was easier
There’s no running from what we all must face, of this I am quite sure
Growth and pain must be endured to get from here to there
