As a songwriter, I think it’s important to take some time out and record some cover songs to see how your voice works for it. It can clue you in as to what types of songs you might want to try writing. So when you hear a song on the radio and you wonder if it’s one you can sing, just try it. Some work, some almost work, and some just don’t work.

Today’s song, Dancing in the Dark (Bruce Springsteen), is another challenging song where the lyrics and the beat move quickly and you have to get the rhythm down just right. It has some qualities in common with Black Horse and the Cherry Tree, but I think that one worked a little better. Still, this one was a lot of fun, too.

It was fun to revisit my youth through this song and one of my early photos.
