For my morning inspiration, I was listening to Mary Gauthier because she embodies the kind of songwriter I aspire to be (see her “Letter to a Songwriter” in the (Song)writing section above.

And the song that really stood out this morning was Worthy – the lyrics are so powerful. I tried recording this song but it just doesn’t work for me. Maybe because my voice is truer when I’m singing my own lyrics. Still, this song, Worthy, is worth a look and a listen.

Verse)
Took a mighty blow, to crack me to the core
To finally come to know I could ask for more
I wondered all my life why I felt so alone
Trying to survive how could I have known

(Chorus)
Worthy, worthy, what a thing to claim
Worthy, worthy, ashes into flame
Worthy!

(Verse)
Left stumbling in the dark, I had to go within
So I traced my scars, back to where I’d been
A diamond in the dirt perfectly concealed
Down beneath the hurt it’s been so hard to feel

(Chorus)
Worthy, worthy, what a thing to claim
Worthy, worthy, ashes into flame
Worthy!

(Bridge)
I walked through a wall of fire
Left behind the only life I knew
No way back, no place to hide
Then the voice came through

(Chorus)
Worthy, worthy, what a thing to claim
Worthy, worthy, ashes into flame
Worthy!

How about one more – a live in concert performance of “Your Sister Cried.”
