Finally, this season of Nashville has returned to making some great music! Last week’s episode had 3 wonderful songs. But the one that really hit me was Spinning Revolver sung by Luke. Check out the opening lyrics:

Love …
It’s a really big word
But haven’t you heard
It’s dangerous

Such appropriate lyrics for right now. The world is tossing the word “love” around so much that I’m starting to cringe when I hear it. Maybe because they think they know what the definition of love is but there are different types of love. In some cases, they’re mistaking passion for love. That can be dangerous.

As a singer/songwriter, I think this song captures that warning, that caution that “love” is dangerous and that applies to all the passions. I’ve been on the dangerous side of “love” and its consequences are long lasting.

In this clip, Luke sings Will’s song because Luke, as his producer, has decided that Nashville isn’t ready for a gay star. So Will looks longingly on as Luke sings his song, realizing his “love” is dangerous and has cost him his career. I’m curious where this story line will go. But the song is cool because it speaks to all of us in some way.

Spinning Revolver

Spinning Revolver

Love it’s a really big word
But haven’t you heard
It’s dangerous

And you
You think you got it locked down
And figured out
And buttoned up

But I
I been burned enough
So I learned enough
To watch my back

That’s why
I’m warning you
What you’re about to do
Is deadly as

Dancin on the devils stove
Playing with the fire below
Pushin’ your luck
Dippin’ your toe, in the water

It’s a pedal down to race the train
Chasing down the hurricane
A bullet in a spinnin’ revolver

Well the heart
It’s a fragile thing
Hangin’ on a string
It don’t take much
And a soul
It’s a little bit strong
It takes a little longer
To use it up

But when
When it all comes down
‘Cause it’s gonna come down
You’re gonna look around and wonder
How you got to where you’re standing Right now

Dancin on the devils stove
Playing with the fire below
Pushin’ your luck
Dippin’ your toe, in the water

It’s a pedal down to race the train
Chasing down the hurricane
A bullet in a spinnin’ revolver

Dancin’ on the devils stove
Playing with the fire below
Pushin’ your luck
Dippin’ your toe in the water

It’s a pedal down to race the train
Chasing down a hurricane
A bullet in a spinnin’ revolver

A pedal down to race the train
Chasing down a hurrincane
A bullet in a spinnin’ revolver
