I was sorely disappointed in my first shot at recording it in my home studio. My voice was too strong, too loud, too mature. I listened to the song again and again and realized it was time to remember who I was when I was 15. Like when I sang with the cute guy in the choir.
That’s one thing I love about Nashville (TV show) – Rayna and Deacon are like 2 old high-school sweethearts trying to reunite but not being able to quite do it – that’s the attraction of the show for me. And that’s what made the final scene of the season finale so powerful.
Once I realized the way to sing this song was to go soft, go light, and feel like I was 15 again, I got much closer to singing it the way it should be sung. It still needs a lot of work but I’m having fun with this.
Maybe I am still 15 at heart because I absolutely love everything about this song.
