Author Lauren Baratz-Logsted writes on her Red Room blog about why some writers do write in multiple genres. While many “experts” try to dissuade you from doing that, saying that you should choose one genre so that you can be “branded,” I agree with Lauren that we’re complex people and some of us choose to write about different topics and in different genres. Since I’m working on 4 wips, her blog post was quite timely for me.
Maybe she didn’t mean write in different genres at the same time, but that’s what I’m doing. My goal for the end of October is to submit my romance novel. Then pick up my young adult in November while taking my children’s picture book to the local critique group as part of the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators, hoping to figure out how to proceed with this.
Finally, my suspense novel is begging for attention but that may have to wait until my current work project is finished because it’ll take more concentration than I can give it on weekends, perhaps.
